Role and Responsibilities

1.  BrewStar Labs Representative – You are both the face and backbone of BrewStar Labs.  You support and promote our customers and commercial brewing community.

2.  Customer Service – You welcome and engage with customers, assess their needs, and offer relevant options and recommendations.  You prepare and package their orders, accurately collect payment, then help them to their vehicle.  You resolve issues quickly and diplomatically.

3.  Problem Solver – You listen, and ask questions.  You take the time to understand where our customer is at and what they’re trying to accomplish.  You provide a short list of relevant good/better/best solutions with pros and cons, and are comfortable asking another team member for help if you don’t know the answer.

4.  Lab Environment – You label and present products in the best way possible.  You restock empty supplies, and keep the lab and production area clean and safe.  You identify products that need to be replaced or re-ordered, and identify new products that should be considered for sale or production.

5.  Networker – You always look for creative ways to engage with customers in the commercial brewing community.

 

Skills

  1. Educational Background: You possess a degree in Biology or Microbiology, with graduate or post-graduate experience that provides a solid foundation in laboratory practices and scientific research methodologies.
  2. Technical Proficiency: You can demonstrate expertise in laboratory operations, including but not limited to, cleaning, plating and monitoring specimens, cell counting, assessing cell viability, and conducting Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) assays.
  3. Experience in Yeast Propagation: You’re knowledgeable about the yeast propagation process, including cleaning and setup, wort production, yeast inoculation, oxygenation, monitoring, settling and collection, packaging, and shipping. Experience in this area will be considered a significant asset.
  4. Brewing Process Familiarity: You have hands-on experience with homebrewing beer, wine, cider, or mead, or at least a theoretical understanding of the brewing process. This knowledge will be instrumental in managing the laboratory’s yeast propagation operations and working with customers.
  5. Self-Motivation and Organization: You’re able to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating a high level of self-motivation, organizational skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and laboratory management.
  6. Interpersonal and Communication Skills: You have strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with commercial customers, including clarity in conveying scientific information, responsiveness to customer inquiries, and professionalism in all interactions.
  7. Professional Sales and Marketing Acumen: While primarily a technical role, you have some understanding of sales and marketing principles, especially as they relate to interacting with and supporting commercial clients.
  8. Quality Control and Compliance: You are committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality control in all laboratory processes, along with adherence to relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  9. Physical Ability: You’re able to lift at least 55 pounds (a sack of grain or extract)
